A relative has a 1997 Tahoe and after starting it threw a check engine light. Is there a way to read what code was thrown without getting a scanner? Some makes it’s just a combo of turning the key and doing something else. Also can I clear the code by removing the battery cables? Just trying to find a way that they don’t need to go into a auto parts place, get it cleared for free then getting the upsale before I get into town with my scanner.
Thanks.
Ryan
I don't believe there is anyway of doing what you want without a scanner. Even disconnecting the battery will not clear the codes that are stored in the computer, only clear the dash light.

Thanks for the reply, I will just have them wait til I get in town.
