i am looking at an airaid intake with everything except for the intake tube to the manifold what will i gain by going this route.
i dont want to be told to get hte full system because if i could afford it i would but i can get the box filter and mounting equipment for $40

Well... First, it may help if you could tell us what vehicle you plan to put this into.
In general, you will want to replace the entire Air Box assembly to see the true benefits of a Cold Air Intake.
If you have a small budget, look to other manufacturers.
I have just installed a C.A.I. from Option Racing on my 1994 Silverado Ext 4WD with 350sb TBI.
This assembly was only $20, new in box and included filter, of eBay. Not bad for an increase of about 10hp.
Be patient and do your homework before purchasing any bolt on performance parts, it will pay off.
