    Default What can my 1500 4.8L tow??

    Hey guys, newbie here, already made one post and the info has been phenomenal. Im obliged
    Anywho heres my ???s

    in a post i made earlier i asked if my '00 1500 4.8l could tow a car and trailer (about 6000#) w/ beefed rear suspension. my truck already has cat back duel exhaust and CAI w/ 373 outback.

    is a programmer needed? would it help?
    any performance mods like headers needed?
    TB spacer?

    i know i need an auxiliary trans cooler, any preferences?

    anything else that i should get or do?

    it shouldn't have a problem towing that, i have towed a little over 5k pounds

    headers may help
    TB spacer is a good paper weight

    Default Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

    You can probably tow 6000# with your truck. You will need a trailer brake controller. I woiuld also highly suggest a quality sway control/weight distribution hitch system. Without such a system, the trailer will be driving the truck on open road.

    i forgot to mention i also have the 3.23 gear ratio which means i tow less then you

    my 06 4.3L v6 towed my old full body malibu and trailer just fine. with the factory tow haul it pulled to the track bout 75 mph and couldn't tell car was even behind us

    This is good to know. ive had my doubts and contemplated getting a 2500HD w/ the 6.0, but i really like my truck and dont want to get rid of it. i looked up the RPO code and it does have 373 (gt4) and the g80 locker in the rear, and i will definitely be putting a 2nd trans cooler on it very soon.

    I was going through the little manuel a couple days ago, and it showed a good chart on every specific motor down to the gears out back.

    i think it was around 6000 im not sure i could be way off lol
