Sorry, they don't work that way. They do run often for a few years the same, but not for that many years.
I'm in the middle of a big project for helping people find these cheap, I should be able to get some answers to all of this sometime in the near future.![]()

Steve - Do you know much about the remote start on the new trucks? Do you think its possible to get a oem remote start system installed in an old year? or is remote start like part of the ignition. That would be awesome if i could get an OEM remote start in my truck. I dont like aftermarket stuff as far as alarm/keyless entry/remote start goes...

you can get remote start but with an aftermarket alarm.
Also some remotes work for 99-02 depending on model #
03-04 will work for only these years also depending on model#

If you can get the FCC # Off the back of the original remote you can match that up to an existing fob and relink it to your vehicle. I get cars in trade all the time with only one fob, so I keep a bunch around just for that reason. If the fob has the same FCC# on the back it can be reprogramed to work with your remote start system or just the keyless entry if that is what you have on the vehicle from the factory..
As for factory remotes working on older trucks. Not that I am aware of. Aftermarket is the only ones that I know of that install them.
GM Truck Equipers sell the factory remote start system for GM vehicles that come with the $30 PREP PACKAGE that you can order on the vehicle from the factory. If it does not have the "prep" package on it then the factory ones will not work on them. Not without butchering your wiring system and gutting out one from an existing vehicle. But that will "probably" cause all kinds of code problems with the computer systems in the truck.
If you can get the FCC# off the fob you have I can try to find you a replacement in my batch I keep here in the store. All it would cost you would be the shipping.
I hope this was of some help to you.
Good luck to you.
