Aux in for 88-94 stereo systems
I found this on ebay:
This seller installs a 3.5mm input jack so an ipod or other sound box can be played through the stock 88-94 stereo system. Anyone have experience with this? Seems like this could be easily done if you know the right place to silder a few wires.

I am a manager of a car audio and performance shop and we sell those adapters all the time it is just a T harness. But unless you are wanting to keep the stock radio you would have better control and clarity with a new radio that has an aux or usb port in the radio.

I am considering keeping the stock radio; would adding an amp improve the output of such a system?

09lowrider, what options are there for a 'modular' system? I looked at the Secret Audio system at http://soundmove.com/secretaudio.htm however I have heard that Custom Autosound Manufacturing is of seriously questionable quality. I would love to have a system that places the control in the location where the stock 1994 system is located.

does your radio have the EQ in the middle of the dash under the vents or is it just a pocket

I added my own AUX jack to my 92 GM truck tape player.
But I had the factory wiring diagrams and a background in electronics which was a big help!
Here are a couple of pictures...

09lowrider, my system has the cassette deck/EQ like the one bill190 modded. I am also going to try connecting my Sony Slim amp (which has high leve inputs) between the stereo lines and the speakers to see how much (if any) improvement there is to the sound. bill190, do you have any pics that show more detail on your mod?; I might try that if I can see the connections. I'm handy with a soldering iron (and a mechanical engineer) so I could do that.

One more thing bill190; could the cassette assembly be removed from the box and a pocket be created on the right sid eof the EQ unit? I'll never use cassettes again so I am considering a more significant mod to make a place for the ipod in the area where the cassette face is...put a mounting bracker or shelf for the ipod.

The EQ and the tape are all one unit. And the EQ works with my AUX input. The sound is REALLY good as compared with the radio. By the way watch out for a ground loop problem if using the cigarette lighter for charging the IPOD. Here are more pictures...
