Check Engine light problem - please help

Hi.

My car is a '03 Z71 Burb and I got the following problem: When I turn the ignition ON everything looks ok. All lights come on and they all go out when I start the engine (except parking brake and seat belt warning lights). But when I turn the engine off and directly turn ignition back on the "Check Engine light" wont come on again. No matter how many times I try. Then again after waiting for some half hour, everything is back to normal.

This has been noted as an issue by the Swedish car inspection agency (whatever that is called in English).

Any ideas on what to do?

Some more info. If I take out the key, lock and unlock the doors with the remote, then the check engine lamp comes on as normal again.

Is this as it should be?

Here's the deal. You know the light works. If it never comes on then don't worry about it. If it comes on while the truck is running then you have a problem.

Right. Only I don't have a problem with this. It's "the Swedish Motor Vehicle Inspection Company" that keeps nagging on me!

I'm not familiar with their inspection policy but if if there are no trouble codes and the light bulb works, what more could they want?

They want it to work every time the key is turned, and then go out when the engine starts. But now I need to fiddle with the lock/unlock buttons to get the light to go on once the engine has been turned off after running. Sigh...
