    Default 1996 chevy fuel pump

My friend has a 1996 chevy silverado 1/2 ton 350 4x4 he is on his 4th fuel pump. Dose any body know what causes these fuel pumps to fail ? About every 2 years he has a fuel pump fail. They are getting replace with the factory fuel pump and being installed by a chevy dealer. Is there any afftermarket fuel pumps out there that are better than stock ? Thanks for any answers you guys give.

I had issues with mine for a while, went through 3 or 4 pumps too. Have they replaced the sending unit too? The wiring seperated on mine where it exits the top of the tank. Heard several theories about these fuel pumps, don't drive it much below 1/4 tank (heats up the pump), only use ACDelco pumps(for some reason the wiring from the factory pump burns up off brand pumps), and there was a wiring issue with the pumps(the wires in the tank need to be replaced with the pump). Haven't had an issue with mine since replacing the sending unit.

This maybe stupid to you guys but have you changed the fuel filter a dirty filter causes the pump to work harder and burn up

    Default carter fuel pump...99 c1500

I just purchased a carter fuel pump unit/complete w/sender... The wire plug end needed to be changed but the colors on the truck harness do not match the ones from carters replacement plug. The truck harness has purple/w white stripe, green, and 2 black wires while the replacement plug has a purple, green, black and orange/w black stripe. Easy enough if the purple wires and green wire are a match but does it mater where the 2 blacks from the truck harness go.... to the orange /w black stripe and black on the plug end??? are they both ground wires? I am assuming that both the blacks from the truck harness are grounds????

yeah one solid black is ground that run out and to the frame from the pump and i believe the other is from the relay up under the hood

    Default carter fuel pump wires

I looked better at the black.. ground... wires and found that they were different gage wires...make sure the wires you connect for the ground are the proper gage. I bet if you hook up the ground wires wrong you could cause a problem ...wires overheating due to excessive current on too small a wire
