I have replaced the right Daytime Running Lamp bulb on my 01 Silverado twice now. The second time I noticed that the bulb was still good but that the white housing appeared a little brown as if burnt. What is the best way to find out what the problem is? The left DRL works just fine.

I've got the same problem. Both sockets are turning brown.
You need to make sure that you're buying the right bulb. You might be buying the right size, but you need to make sure that you buy the bulb that is designed to be stressed for the DRL.
You're probably thinking.."sressed?"
Yes, stress. The bulbs are under more stress when they have to be dimmed for DRL which is why many fellas and gals that do the HID conversion to their trucks will remove the DRL fuse from the fuse box in the engine bay.
So make sure you're buying the right bulb for the right job, or just remove the DRL fuse and avoid this ever happening again. You're truck will still turn the lights on when it gets dark like normal too, you just won't have lights on during the day.
"Never ask a man if he's from Texas. If he is, he'll tell you. If he isn't, there is no need to embarrass him."

I removed my drl fuse even before I had HIDs.
S theometimes sockets themselves go bad also...just put the bulb that works from the other side and see if it works...if not its the socket
The sockets turning brown is common with vehicles that have drl. The run pretty hot which accounts for the limited life span

I have the same "browning" of bulb socket and went through a number of bulbs after the factory bulbs. I quit buying cheap bulbs (didn't think about it at the time) and started using silvania (don't think thats spelled right but ya'll know what I mean) bulbs and no more problems. As far as the rubbing browning, couldn't tell ya.![]()
