i had an issue where my suburban was stalling in gear, so i adjusted the idle and now its good once it warms up, but now it drives fine, but the check engine light is showing up about 30 seconds after i put it in park, but once i go through the gears it goes away, how can i check the diagnostics myself, cause my local parts store can only read vehicles that are 96 and up

Throttle Body to Intake gasket is suspect. They are notorious for cracking, leaking, distorting. While you've got the TB off, give it a good cleaning.
You shouldn't have to adjust the idle. The Idle Air Control does that if everything is working properly. The engine should run just as well cold as hot.
When you hear hoofbeats, look for horses not zebras.
The codes are easy to read on an OBD I vehicle like yours. All you need to do is jump the ALDL terminal and your check engine light will blink out the codes.
