Default CD Player Suggestions / Post Up Some Pics

Hey all. Prior to my registration to this forum, I purchased a 94 Silverado 1500. It has NO rust and the interior is good. My questions relate to replacing the obsolete (and terrible sounding) factory AM/FM Cassette setup currently installed. It has the digital radio / heat controls with the center dash mounted cassette deck (not looking very conducive to change). Let me see some pics of your systems you have done. Any thoughts appreciated.

I don't have pix but I have always liked Kenwood products. You didn't really say what you were interested in doing but you could replace the factory unit with a basic am/fm cd unit w/mp3 jack for about $100. These days there's all kinds of adapter plates to make it work in your truck.

I'm not looking to spend a fortune and have a cab crushing thump system, just looking for a really good sound that I can rock out to if I feel like it and keep the dash looking reasonably realistic. I have NO idea what is out there that will interface with the factory setup, reason for the post. I am a 46 year old AC/DC, new rock kind of guy who likes to bang my head once in a while. I drive 26 miles one way to work and enjoy listening to my CDs and the local "bang your head" radio station (103.9 "The X")

    Thanks.

I don't have any pictures, but you should be able to find an adapter kit to fit a CD player for your truck at Wal-Mart. As far as stereos go, I have a Kenwood KDC MP-238. It normally runs about $120-ish (picked mine up for 80 on black friday '08), and it is an awesome stereo. Looks great, and works even better. You can fine-tune just about anything you can think of, from fade/balance to subwoofer controls, all form the deck!

    Previous Vehicle:
    1990 Suburban V1500 4x4 - SOLD... Damn I'm gonna miss that beast.

Just go to crutchfield.com, they have all kind of price ranges and AWESOME costumer service. If you spen $120 on a head unit, you will get it shipped for free along with all the necessary parts for install, they even send you detailed install instructions for your particular vehicle. I dont think crutchfield will give it up for free but there is a piece that can go into your dash were your radio presets are currently at. It will make it a little cubby so to speak, but the parts for getting the deck into the center part of the dash will be free, i have bought tons of audio gear from them and never had a problem. If you do get stumped you can call them ad they will go step by step over the phone as well, Good Luck.

    P.S. Kenwood or Alpine!!

Thanks for the input. This is the only thing I am not really impressed with is that goofy radio and tape deck set up on this thing. Seems like they could have made it more interchange friendly.
