I have a 2004 chevy tahoe with the stock alternator and I was just wondering in order to add a extra battery do I have to upgrade the alternator first?
2004 chevy tahoe 5% tint all the way around ,flowmaster exhaust dumped, 3 12 inch kicker L5's in-dash DVD player, kicker 1200.1 amp, removed cargo rack, black headlights lense, black turn signal lense, smoked tail lights, 8000K HID lights.
Needs to be the 140 amp alternator.
A good thread here http://www.gmtruckclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19933
The stock alternator can handle 2 batteries just fine under normal conditions. If you are going to run an occasional winch that is OK too but if you are running extra accessories all the time like a big Amp or power inverter for power tools etc. then you need a bigger alternator.
