had the burb almost two years. was well taken care of by original owners, family who we bought from, regular oil changes, lubes, the tough jobs went to a local franchise mechanic shop. it's a 99 chevy suburban LS, 5.7 liter C1500.
nothing major has ever been wrong with it. had to have fuel tank dropped to replace fuel pump just before i got it, i am no mechanic--just the easy stuff. changed the fuel filter and put in a k&n air filter, putting in freon for the a/c. got a gash from jack-knifing into a trailer i borrowed and forgot.
a few other minor dings. well previous owners put a small dent in bumper from hitting a cattle fence corner post and a side-swiped a highway barrel barely denting the wheel chrome trim. other than that, running fine.
do seem to get a little squeal from the adjustable belt tensioner(?) might be time to replace or lube.
other than that, just wondering how much life the beast might have in her? any particular plans i should make to avoid an overhaul in the future?
i'd like to see the burb hit 250,000 or beyond. pipe dream?

Nah! Just keep up on the maintenance, and it'll last you a good long time. Get after those dents and gashes, though, to avoid rust. A well maintained drivetrain will outlast a rusty body.
I bought mine with the intent of putting 400,000 miles on it - we'll see...
Good luck, enjoy your Burb!!

250K should be no problem. I would advise you take care of things as they come up.
When you hear hoofbeats, look for horses not zebras.

you shouldn't have any problems, I had 243,000 on my 95 jimmy with the 4.3, just take care of her

Yep, 250 - 300k no big deal. You really don't want to trade it in for a $600 car payment do you?

sorry, been off-site for a few weeks. no, don't want those payments. considered cash for clunkers but just don't have the credit to buy yet. thing is, is it my imagination or does the vortec give the suburban, a vehicle twice the size and weight(?) of my 03 ranger about the same gas mileage? always liked the idea of 8 cyls becoming 4 cyls and it seems both get about 18 city, 22 highway. i got the 22 on a long trip from georgia to oklahoma and back. calculations may have been off, but that's what i think i got.

looking at some of the other posts, maybe 22 mpg for a suburban is just crazy! i have seen 710 to 720 miles (from the trip meter) on a 37 gallon tank, if say i packed it to 38 gallons, then 715 divided by 38 is: 18.8, not bad, huh? this is after a new fuel filter, oil change and k&n cool air intake filter was installled

275k on our '94 so I don't see a problem with you getting to 250k

If I didn't have a Suburban I couldn't pull the toy box and haul my family to use the toys.
I have a 2003 2500 6.0 with over 166,000 miles on it... Thing runs perfect!

I run my Burbs as tow vehicles and I buy em around 100k and retire em at 400-500k. I run my truck approx 100k per year. 250k is EZ. Keep that tranny flushed!!!
