I recently rebuilt a 350 engine that I stroked because I had a 400 crank available, but that's besides the point. The motor's got about 1000 miles on it since the rebuild and it ran strong with no problems, but now when it's running at idle, after about 10 seconds the engine starts to die and I have to pump the gas to keep it going. My fan belt squeaks like crazy when I rev it up to keep it going, and my voltage meter drops from about 15 to below13, which is when the engine usually quits. Could this be an electrical problem that's killing my power that's killing my spark? Is it a carb problem? The engine doesn't cough or backfire as it dies, it just slowly misses until it dies. Any thoughts? All help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
Well I was going to try to help you haha but you said that your engine has a carburetor. If it was a TBI then I would advise unplugging the ecu for about 5- 10 minutes, but seeing that it is not I am not sure. Check the connection to your alternator and make sure your alternator is good.
So this just started happening? What do you run for a carb? How does the truck start cold and how about hot?Any smoke out of the exhaust?
