Okay so i purchased a 1996 chevrolet silverado z71 fully loaded, lifted 6 inches with 36" tires. When i first got the truck when i tried to put in 4wd it would do nothing. But today i had my dad check it out with me and now to use 4wd i have to put it in 4lo then to 4hi if i wsant hi and if im in hi and want to goto 2wd i have to put it in 4lo to pop it back to 2wd. Does anyone have any idea why it does this? And why it would just decide it wanted to start working??
bUMP TTT No one??

I presume you have the pushbutton switch for your transfer case. What does it do when you push the 4Hi button when you are in 2Hi?
Sounds like the encoding motor is gone to me.
When you hear hoofbeats, look for horses not zebras.

Can't say that I've heard of that problem. You might waqnt to call the dealer and ask them if no one else here can help you.
Good luck.

When i click 4hi when im in 2hi it does nothing but i can go from 2hi to 4lo then to 4hi.
I worked at the dealership here for 2 years and the ****ers want over $100 to diagnose the problem and if it is the coder they want 800 for it. I figured out that my push switch had a bad connection inside it or sumthing so im getting a new one tomorrow. And i guess ill have to live with the fact i cant go from 2hi to 4hi and just do it the ghetto way.

Sounds like it could be the actuator to me. When I had my lift put on they forgot to plug mine back in sounded similar to what you describe.

So u think my actuator might not be plugged in or it may not be screwed back in?

is their any way to test and see if its bad before i buy a new one?
And what is the possibility of it being my coder or whatever it is?
