Default what is the story with a cold air intake??

I am new to the whole aftermarket stuff, what is a cold air intake and would it do for me???

One other question, is there an air filter inside the cab? Or just in the engine compartment only?

Thanks guys, you are the best....

A cold air intake is supposed to provide more air flow to your engine, and pull colder air through the fender, rather than from the truck. I personally think it is a waste of money.

I can guarantee you that it will lighten your wallet, however. And probably make the cab much louder at WOT.

Cold air induction, by itself, is not going to gain you much. I agree with 2COR517 in that just doing CAI will not be very cost effective.

However, it is a proven fact that if you group a quality CAI system with a quality exhaust set-up and then get a quality tune, you can gain some noticeable "seat-of-the-pants" performance improvements. Helping these engines to breath more efficiently is a good thing. But proper tuning is the key! GM is getting bettter at performance tuning of their products, but they have their hands tied by government guidelines. I obviously stress QUALITY because there is a lot of junk out there. Do your research first.

Do some searches on here. A lot of guys here have some great set-ups. I just bought my '07 and am doing the same thing for myself. I have a lot of experience with some previous vehicles, but now it is time to learn how to "wake-up" the new one!!

    Good luck!!

ive got a spectre air intake. and i went from 12.7 to about 14 or so mpg.
and it gave my truck alittle bit more power. but it really anit worth it if your wanting to see a big change. but i like it. makes the truck sound better.

On engine noise, if you just get a K&N OE replacement for your truck you should still see some improvements, if you get the full intake tube and it WILL give you more cabin noise as that replaces the entire factory ducting and the silencer. There should be a filter for the cabin air, alot of new vehicles have them, it would sit somewhere behind the glove box.

I added the spectre on my 6.0 Denali for 119.00. They asked 149 but matched the price from auto anything.com. I love the way it sounds and the throttle response is better. I got 15 mpg out of the last tank of gas and am at 18 now.

I know a lot of people like K&N and a lot of people like VOLANTE... I have never had them but as I have been doing some research to get an intake... I decided that I want to go with the CHEVY performance intake for my 08 silverado... I like the fact that it is a dry element filter and not an oil based one like K&N... My concern is that it uses a polished metal pipe instead of the plastic pipe on the air charger series from K&N... Hopefully it won't be as big of an issue as oil from the K&N ruining the intake sensors, etc. etc..

Darkness, you can get a dry filter for the Volant too. It's called a "powercore" I think, and it's said to be good for 100,000 miles.
I'm seriously looking into a Volant, just need to find some cash, or wait for Santa...
