Well guys, today I got my headers installed. They are Pacesetter shorty headers. It wasn't a bad install at all, very simple, just time consuming and some patience for bolts. The sound is much different than what the truck was before. She sounds more throaty. I will post a vid soon of the sound with the headers, with a comparison to before. Hopefully I can see some cash back in my wallet in gas mileage out of them. That we will see.

my lights on. but still cant figure out whats wrong.? maybe just a short?

redneckarmymp, If you remove your cats the checklight will come on. You shouldhave a custom tune when you remove cats as the exhaust outflows the stock ecm capabilities and even the capabilities of most standard programmers. The O2 simulaters just turn off the light, but does nothing or the tune. Your truck will loose power without the custom tune. Also the custom tune can turn off the check light. The Dyno doesnt lie, without cats and no custom tune you loose power. Alot of people think ther truck is faster without cats because it sounds louder or there old cat was bad. I run JBA shorties with magnaflow highflow cats that are 1/4 larger in diameter thanstock cats and a larger Y pipe with a magnaflow catback. If I had it to do over I would get Dynatech longtubes with there high flow cats. This setup is good for 17hp. on a 5.3 with STOCK catback. A few years back the recieved a award from GM at SEMA for this setup.
thanks ill keep that in mind then.ive shopped around for the simulators and couldnt even find any.i removed the cats on my dodge and just ran headers and it ran sooo much better so i was wanting a similar setup on the chevy(but with pipes this time, the dodge was wayyyyy to loud).any suggestions on a good custom tune?

useful sources here

Hey redneck!! I know this will go against what truck guys are about, but go through some tuner mags or website to find the O2 simulators, they seem easier to find that way. Google, "J-Body" there are some great jbody sites and these guys can point you in the right direction. (jbody is cavaliers and sunfires) so at least its staying within GM
