i would hate to pay the minimun shop time ( 1 hour at $90 an hour)
just to find out there is no fault code stored to find.
There is no other way. You can fool around checking connections and throwing parts at it and you might get lucky. I'm willing to bet if you called a few shops in your town one of them would offer to check codes for you.

My bad. I somehow thought you had a 96' . You can jump the terminals and receive flash codes on a 93.

great. now i have a trouble code of "53 system voltage high" when the failure is present force motor is turned off and the transmission immeadiately shifts to 2nd gear and tcc operation is inhibited.
my voltage at battery when running is 14.4 volts
i dont know why this error is comming up as the charging system seems fine.
    my pcm might need replacing.

I would clear the code and clean the battery cables. Then check the charging voltage just as the vehicle starts. A voltage spike is all it takes to set the code. A loose connection, bad ground, bad diode in the alternator or a shorted cell in the battery can cause a voltage spike.

i have cleared the codes a few times, replaced the battery, checked and watched the voltage at the pcm (orange wire d1 as i recall) for voltage. i get no reading above 14.4 volts. tommorow i check and trace what i can, ill swap the altenator with one from my s10 if i have to to test that.
and ill start looking for a scantool for obd1 thats cheep enough to buy.
funny thing is i get the error after clearing the codes and NOT starting the truck. either the code does not clear or the pcm finds the error as soon as the key is turned on.
maybe i need to find someone to test the pcm or a replacement.
    thank you for the help.
