Thread: Gas tank help

    Default Gas tank help

I need some help my fuel pump went out in my 97 suburban, I go to drop the tank and it didn't move. I released the straps tried prying it down with no success. I believe when I looked at the tank it seems to be seized to the truck or the insulation, how do I remove it?

My tank did the same thing. There's a sticky material material about 1/8" thick between the tank and the chassis. After everything is unbolted get a pry bar and SLOWLY apply downward force on the flange on the tank away from the chassis. Don't use so much force that you bend anything, the secret is steady pressure for a long time. Eventually the bond with the sticky stuff will break somewhere and the tank will pretty much fall out. Be prepared by putting a jack or something under it when it's ready to drop.
