Heres the thing, my truck is a 2006 silverado LS 2 crew cab.. dont get me wrong i love this truck, but since January of this year, i've had to replace the fuel pump four times... this time with the Delphi OEM pump??? its always the same thing.. fuel level sensor doesn't read the fuel level at all, it stays at empty, and occasionally will jump to full, even when the tank isn't full....
i think sombody on here said that would be a problem with the sending unit when your sensor doesnt read properly.i could be wrong though but may be somthing to look into.is the pump going out when the tank runs dry?

actually the pump works really good, sends gasoline even if its dry, but the level sensor is always faulty, i don't know if its a coincidence, but 4 times in a row?? like i said before the pump in the truck is the oem that i just bought, and it came up with the same problem..![]()
well i may be off on this and im sure sombody will correct me but from what i understand the gasoline also helps to keep the pump cool as it pumps.if the sending unit which controls the fuel level guage is faulty it may be allowing the tank to run low enough to the point that the pump is not cooling properly and causing it to go out.from what i hear these trucks are bad about that kinda thing.i know its happened to a friends avalanche last year

redneck is correct. The gas is what cools the fuel pump, and letting the tank get a little past 1/2 is ok, but after 3/4 you are really running a big risk of pump failure. You might want to check the wiring from the sending unit to where ever it goes as it might be pinched or chaffed. Then the next step would to be check the cluster, or replace the cluster, b/c I seriously doubt that 3 new sending units would be defective.

as mean green said, its doubtful that all 3 sending units are bad. I worked for a Chevy dealer in the parts dept and we ran into this problem many times. it ended up being either the sending unit, or the cluster. we had to order the clusters from a supplier other than GM and had them program the mileage or we had to do it with the tech 2.

I am guessing the cluster, they can test it at the dealership, when you know that the tank is full and its reading empty is when you need to bring it in, so they can see first hand, and then you know its giving them the problem intead of them saying "we couldnt duplicate the malfunction" but here is a 120 bill for tryin go test it.
