I did some investigations and I found these ODI Service Bulletins:
    NHTSA Item#: 10011209, 10006261,10026522,10017245, 10009390

    They are all related....

I know in the late 90's early 2000s the camaros had issues with the tank vent sensor and it always made it a pain to fill, but I figured they would have fixed that problem

The heater is working fine. Is not just warm ... is Hot, and stay hot...I don't believe the issue is the thermostat...
I believe is something related to the gas tank, gas cap, or not filling the gas properly... remember the SES light can also be ON; due to the gas cap...

Whenever the Check engine Light comes on it's because of a trouble code. If you leave your cap loose the PCM knows this because the tank will not hold pressure or vacuum. Once the PCM sees this it's sets an EVAP code and illuminates the Check Engine Light. Some vehicles have a separate gas cap light because this is such a common problem manufacturers saw a need for the extra light.

I still believe you have 2 distinct and separate problems that are not related.
