I hate to say it, but GM or Chrysler should not have been bailed out. Ford is taking on the chin because they are still around. If there are no GM or Chrysler vehicles to buy, people will buy something else.

Great products like the vette, maybe the solstice, and possibly the jeep would have been spun off.

We would have done better to give a generous severance package to the workers and sent management packing. The employees could use the money to retrain or retire.

Just because you wouldn't be able to buy a chevy wouldn't keep you from buying something else. The consolidation would make the industry stronger. Now we have poured good money after bad, and only delayed the inevitable.
