Welcome to the site! I think you'll find a lot of guys have installed an intake on their trucks it's usually one of the first mods people do. The general opinion around here is they are all pretty much the same and its just personal preference on which brand you use, performance gains are usually the same for each brand just stay away from the metal tube types because the metal gets hot and defeats the purpose. You'll need to add an exhaust system too to get the full benefits of the intake, better airflow in needs better airflow out!

Adam is right, the metal tube intakes suck! I had a 77 series K&N metal intake, and I have to say that was the worst $300 I have ever spent on the truck. I am going to buy a Volant intake for my newest truck, they are a closed box design with a plastic tube. Plus they also have the ram air tube available on some applications, that is a super cool option as well.

I have owned numerous vehicles that I have modified with various CAI manufacturers' products. Plus I just bought my '07 Silverado and have been doing research in to the same thing. The three posts listed above are all the information you need....TRUST ME!!

The only thing I will add is, after finding a quality CAI and exhaust system get a good ECM tune. Setting the proper air/fuel ratio and timing is essential to realizing the full potential of your upgrades!

FWIW, I have decided on the Volant CAI system!

Also, try the search button above. You will find a lot of incredible info on this site!

Good luck and WELCOME to the forum!
