I've been having a Misfire issue with my 97 Tahoe now for along time. BEFORE the misfire, I've replaced plugs, wires, cap, crank, and cam shaft sensors. I did have a bad mis though on the highway. replaced camshaft sensor, it went away. I got a misfire now that's even at idle. I put it in park, it goes way up, then comes back down. If I put my foot into the gas, the whole truck has no power as if Plug wire is almost switched its so bad. On the highway it misses HORRIBLY. The code I got is P1345 Camshaft whatever code. This sensor already go out again? It's been around 2.5 years since I replaced it. I'm getting so sick of this truck not running right. I've replaced plugs and wires twice now total. Should I try another Camshaft sensor? I didn't put it in before; does the distributor gotta actually come out? The guy that did it I dont think had to pull it out? Thanks for Your time.

I would say its time to take it to a shop to have them look at it. They will have the computer to read the engine where it is missing.

Camshaft position sensor is in the distributor. $30 bucks if you DIY. I think it is a good idea to get the engine "scoped" you will have a lot more information to work from. CPS is the thingy sticking out the side of the distributor.

Definitely cant afford to bring it to a shop. Can I replace the CPS somewhat easily?

Well it's easier that changing a water pump. If that doesn't scare you off check out the link to the Chilton's site it will give you the procedure.![]()

Sounds like your distributor isn't installed correctly.
I cant believe how bad it is when under load, or going up any slight hill like on free-way, but soon as its level, it smooths itself out. I'm leaning towards TPS of CPS?
Can my Cam sensor make it idle high? its idling at like 1400-1500
dont throw any more plugs or wires at it unless they are gm. they will almost always last over 100k and i rarely ever see a drivability problem that comes from plugs or wires on anything under 100k
your dtc means when the engine is running, the cam sensor reference pulse is not detected at the correct relative position to the crankshaft position sensor pulse
you need to check and make sure your distributor bolts are tight
cmp not loose
your distributor isnt 1 tooth off ( id look at this first )
excessive freeplay in timing chain
if you didnt mark your distributor correctly when you took it out they are easy to install 1 or more teeth off
there is also a camshaft offset retard procedure for those modles we had trouble with. you'll need the dealer for that one
it shouldnt be idling high unless the computer is just trying to keep it running. make sure you didnt blow a intake seal. start it and spray somthing flamable (ie brake clean) around the intake. check for coolant leaks around that area
