I was able to pick up an encoder motor (transfer case shift motor, whatever its called) from a salvage yard for $96 shipped with a lifetime warranty. Pretty good considering it was going to cost me about $400 for an OEM unit after discounts from the dealership where I work.
Are these as easy to change out as it looks? Are there any special tricks or obstacles that I should be aware of? I have done basic maintenence in the past (changed out starters, shocks, plugs, etc...). Any input would be greatly appreciated.
A mechanic at the dealership where I work installed the encoder motor after hours. It didn't seem to take him very long. The 4x4 seems to be working. Heading out in a few minutes to try it out on a muddy road.
