Hi i have a 2000 Silverado 1500 with the autotrac transfer case and was wondering that when it is in 2 hi should'nt the front driveshaft turn freely?

Welcome to the site! I'm no expert, but it sounds like it should as the front differential isn't in service. I'm sure someone will be able to give you a better answer before long.

I'm pretty sure your truck has a front axle disconnect. If so it just disconnects one axle to release the front drive. The other axle stays locked. This locked axle prevents you from turning the driveshaft by hand even in 2WD.
