What was GM thinking when they did this to us???!!!
Our block heaters WILL NOT work until its -18c or 0f. Who come up with this brilliant plan? I would love to meet them....EVERY FROZEN MORNING!
Enough rant...now has anyone come up with a functional block heater that won't set an engine code?
You can remove the OEM plug (thats where the thermostatically controled gizmo is) and add a standard 3 prong plug.... BUT, I have heard people gettting a CEL after 2 cold engine starts with the potential of loosing your dash temp guage as well. Not everyone gets this result though for some unknown reason.
I believe this useless system started in the 2003 model year and continues today. Have you heard the noises your engine makes when its that cold out....not to mention your hands and arse getting frost bite as you wait for the windows to clear...so much for fuel economy eh amd the hell with the enviroment too.... GM figures we can idle our trucks 20 mins longer than you should have to and puke out unknown quantities of crap until your engine reachs optimum operating tempuratures.
Well.... I dont know how to solve this issue and not end up with that damned CEL glowing on the dash all winter long.
I did buy an inline water heater that installs in the heater hose but I'm afraid to use it. I dont know which heater hose to use as there is some fancy GM techno bypass valve apparatus in the lower hose...if I run a heater there I'm afraid of some other sort of melt down.
Sooooo, while your out in your truck rubbing your hands and curseing GM rocket science....try and think of a way we can all solve this problem with out haveing to build another garage to park in.
Well, you could always draw straws and see who is the poor SOB that has to go start the truck this morning...turn it into a game and have some fun with it.
Pfffftttttt BULLSH$T, I want a block heater that works, I mean I did pay for one it may as well dangle from my rear view mirror though.
Solutions....
Please.... we have already had 2" snow here and seen -12c sheesh! Whats up with that already.
Good luck my friends, I'm gonna ask GM for some nice warm gloves and a seat warmer cuz I never got heated seats ;o(
I love the truck all the way, but man I just cant figure how this cord hanging out of the front of my truck is gonna help me.
