Default How often should i change my air filter?

hey, im pretty sure theres allready a thread on this but i couldnt find one so if anyone could point me in the direction of one or just answer my question id appreciate it.

how often should i change my air filter? i got bored and checked it yester day and it looked kinda brown but there wasnt that much build up of dust, dirt etc. im not sure if the dealer changed it or not when i bought the truck used but i think it has around 20k miles on it rite now and as far as i know its never been replaced.

on top of that ive been wanting to get a cai for sometime now so is a new filter cheap or should i just wait another 2 months till i can get a CAI as a christmas present? lol

I have a k&n cold air intake system on my 00 silverado but before obviously I had OEM and I was replacing it about every 12k miles or depending were you drive, I started off roading every other weekend and then I had to replace the filter about every other oil change, that is why I replaced it with K&N that way I can just wash it and recharge it, it's cheaper at a long run, it gives you a lil horse power & it saves you gas, in my opinion I recomend that you wait.

On my work truck, I go 10k on air filters, unless it gets dirty sooner. I've replaced it after 1000 hard miles. On my burb I use a K&N filter and wash it every 5k or sooner if I'm out in the dust.
