Good day, everyone:
I just joined this site because I am going to buy a used (very clean, family owned so I know how well it has been treated and maintained) 1992 Chevy Silverado: 5.7 L, V8, half-ton. There is, however, an issue or two. Since I was a teenager, I have always been a Chevy fan; I am happy to soon be owning another (hard times=matchbox Japanese trucks).
The temperature gauge does not work: They have tried new gauges, checked wiring, etc, but still cannot troubleshoot the damn thing to the problem.
Also, when it is cold (PA weather) is tends to stall when first started; then, it fires right up and stays idling. This I can live with: Just let it warmn up for quite a few minutes.
These issues may or may not have been beaten to death in other posts here, I dont know; I am a dirt bike rider and am active on sites quite similar to this one - different machines, thats all. So, if these issues I mention here have already been answered - time and again - I apologize for re-hashing the same issue. If not, any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Welcome to the site Steve, sounds like you have got a good old truck to work with. I wish I could offer some advice but I am not good with mechanical stuff, I am all about the aftermarket stuff............AMY![]()

Welcome to the site from one Steve to another Steve!
I had a 91 Bronco that would stall when it was cold too, it didn't always do it just every now and again, not sure what it was, didn't have it long enough for me to dig into all the problems it had. and not sure about the guages, might need to take it to a tech to check it out.
Look forward to seeing some pics and hope you enjoy the site as much as I do!

Sounds good--like you know the history of the truck, etc. 1992 would be a less expensive truck to maintain since it would be pre-vortec. I would suspect the temp sending unit as the culprit on the temp gauge not working. As far as the stalling, you may want to try a Sea-Foam treatment to clean up the carbon deposits-assuming this has not been done. I have gotten great, mechanical advice at chevytalk.com too.
Good luck!

Thank you for welcoming me to the site.
As soon as I get a chance to look into the temp gauge I will let you know what I came up with.
I have a feeling (if this is like the dirt bike pages I am on) this is going to be a good site to be on.

Thanks, Eddie!

I'm with Mitch,
I would guess the temp sending unit/sensor.
The SeaFoam works Very well too imo
