I won the Amsoil oil change!

Way back this summer I won the Summer Contest oil change courtesy of Amsoil/1st Synthetics. Initially I was skeptical of putting full synthetic oil in my 97 K2500 with 140K. I have been running Valvoline MaxLife synthetic blend for the last 50K or so. After some research I decided to go ahead with the oil change. Poor reports for Amsoil are few and far between, the one poor outcome I read about was most likely due to the previous oil used.

Scott sent me six quarts of the ASL 5W-30, Amsoil filter, and engine flush.

Did the oil change Saturday afternoon. No issues, of course. Started the truck, engine seemed quieter. Started this morning, none of the usual slight noise at cold startup.

Very pleased with the product, and packaging. Little things make a difference. No foil seal on the bottles not only saves time, but eliminates the chance of the foil getting in the motor. Doesn't sound like a big deal but there was a rash of engine failures in the Aviation sector years ago due to the foil. Some were deadly. The big bottle openings are nice too. Smoother pouring, no more glug glug and splashes over the funnel.

Looking forward to doing two oil changes per year, rather then four or five. If I had been thinking, I would have gotten the SSO 0W-30 for the winter. I plan to switch the entire fleet over to Amsoil.

I have researched the Amsoil thing as well, and I noticed that you can't find any bad reviews about it and a lot of diesel guys have used it with awesome results. Glad that your prize turned out well, keep us updated on the long term effects on a broke in motor turned full synthetic.

i was wonder to try a good oil to see what positives i get out, what is the issue some ppl have with synthetic oils???

they may say that the oil is made for 5-10-15000 miles, But u should always no matter what they say change the oil about every 3-4000 miles.

Thats what the oil industry and auto industry has succesfully programmed our brains to beleive. The newer technology oils and blends can last much longer between drains and their detergents are capable of keeping your motor and other lubricated surfaces much better protected and cleaned. I have used Amsoil products specifically most of my life. I am not advertising for them in any way but have proved what they say.

I have done several used oil analysis tests where I send in a portion of my used oil to be analyzed at a lab. Several companies offer this service for about $20. I change the oil in both of my vehicles once a year as I do not exceed 25 thousand miles a year. Many amsoil engine lubricants are rated to last 25 thousand miles or one year when used with one of their higher performing filters as well.

With oil analysis I have proven to myself and others this practice is safe.

I am not saying your wrong in changing your oil every 3 to 4k miles. I am merely saying there are better performing and longer lasting lubricants on the market.

I ran the Amsoil synthetics in my 2005 2500 Duramax for 100K. I put about 25,000 on the truck every year and changed the oil once a year. I know i should have done it twice a year but when you are putting that many miles on a truck in a year, you dont have time. A lot of that mileage was city driving from job site to job site.
I was so impressed by the Amsoil even over the Valvoline full synthetic i was running in my previous Suburban 8.1L. I have no problem saying that for me, I would easily go 12-15K between oil changes using the Amsoil. Of course, I used from the day i bought the truck, brand new off the lot. Had it flushed and replaced that day.
