Hi guys,
The factory stereo in my truck is screwed. It tunes but the interference is horrible. I am not a big stero person...just like my talk radio
So I thought I'd look on ebay for another factory stereo. Now the thing I noticed is these radios have some sort of theft locking/deterrent system.
Now does that mean I can not simply plug in a new one?
Thoughts?
what year truck is it?
In some cases you have to have the dealer unlock the stereo. I heard its just a code they type in. I sold my stock head unit out of my 06 and the guy just hooked it up and it played, but some are different. You might want to consider going with a aftermarket head unit also.

You could go with something like this Kenwood. It has a usb port on the front. You could download your talk radio as podcasts and listen to them anytime you want. Use a memory stick or an iPod/iPhone/MP3 player.

I don't want to put too much $$ into a stereo. An after market would require a wiring harness adapter and an enclosure to fit the factory space right?
Yes. The harness depends on if you have onstar/bose and the enclosure is normally around $15. Some places give you the enclosure if you buy the head unit from them.

then you could probably pick up a harness at wal-mart for like 20 or so.

I just removed my am-fm cassette factory unit from my 01 silverado. You pay the shipping -you can have it. It will slide right in.
