To accuratly decide and judge how about some specs on the subs, minimum volume for sealed or ported box, RMS rate, peak rate. Just the difference in a box can make a difference in what range of bass it will pick up. A ported box is completed different from a sealed box for the range of bass it will put out as far as preciseness and Htz. Size is of the sub doesnt determine the "big bass" factor all the time. A good 8 or 10 inch in the correct and tuned box will have better bass then a off the shelf crappy 12 in a box that isnt built to the needs of the sub. also the placement of your subs can make a huge difference. What it comes down to is that there is much more to big bass then the amps. Just like if you have a great motor in your vehicle, without the proper intake, exhaust, tranny, computer management/timing and rear end, it aint gonna matter if you have 500 hp if you cant get it to the road correctly

The main thing you need to know is that if you put too big of an amp, you'll be out two subs in a real hurry. For example, if you put a 2000 watt amp on two 500 watt subs, chances are you'll blow the subs immediately, where as if you were to use an 800 to run two 500's, your probably fine. A good rule of thumb is to take the total watts of speakers you will run through the amp added together times .8 or 80%. This will allow you to get a good optimum bass sound without blowing your speakers. The quality of the bass will then depend on the quality (brand) of the subs and amp that you are using, be sure to understand the size of fuse and what gauge wires you intend to run aswell.
