Default Oil change for 6 quarts

I just noticed that when I got my oil changed they charged me for 6 quarts of oil, saying that the 4.2 L held 6. I got to thinking about this on the way home... is that correct? Does anyone else know if that's right? I'll look it up later, just wondering if anyone knew offhand.

The new 2005 4.2L takes SEVEN quarts of oil. Not sure if they increased the pan or what since the 2002.

Check your dipstick. The capacity is 7 quarts on the 4.2L I-6.

Hmm, they only said they put 6 in it. HMMMM, I need to go take a look at it. I'll be UPSET if they shorted me a quart of oil.

All TB/Envoys since the "official" release, or new body style, with the 4.2L I6 hold 7 quarts. aeropagus and envoyfan2 are correct.

I was getting my "Change Oil" light coming on during cold starts. It had to have been from getting too little oil on the sensors during the start, becuase it was all in the pan!

Thanks guys. I've added another quart and I'll tell the techs next time to put in 7 quarts.

Just make certain that you roll lucky-number SEVEN when you roll out of the oil changing joint.
