i have a 97 silverado with the 4l80e trans. when i get out on the road and drive for a little bit every once in a while the truck will start to stutter or shake. the only way it stops is if i let off the gas or really get on it. the next issue i have is that after almost 8 miles on the dot if i come to a stop sign and take off again it starts to "drop" hard into all the gears. it drops the hardest from 1st to 2nd then gets a little better in each of the next gears. the weird thing is that if i stop then and shut the truck off even if its for 30 seconds it will be fine again for about another 8 miles like somthing gets reset. any help on this would be greatly appreciated
What's happening is your transmission goes into failsafe and the PCM raises the line pressure which makes it shift hard. You may also have a misfire which causes the shaking. Go to a shop and get it scanned for codes. Autozone will do it for free. Post the codes here and we can help you fix it.
