So I am 99% sure my fuel pump is shot. I just want to run it by the masses to salidify my finding.
About a month and a half ago I was coming home from a trip. In my absent mindedness I forgot to fuel up on my way out of town to come back home. The trip is about 45 miles. I was pretty sure I had enough gas so I just pressed on. As I got about 10 miles out the gauge was touching "E" and I had a slight pucker factor going on but the fuel light had not come on yet. Well about 3 miles from the gas station, it happened. I sputtered and stopped. I got gas brought to me and got home. For the next month I didnt dare put more than about 10-15 gallons of gas in at a time because I was making sure my fuel pump wasnt going bad. Sure enough, the very first time I decide to put a full tank in, I run a small errand and get ready to go home and the truck just dies. Now she just turns over fast and dont start. I pulled the cap off the pressure port above the fuel rack and the first time, I got a spurt to come out when I shoved my knife in there. I turned the key on, but didnt turn it over. I let it set a good 10 seconds and then turned the key off. I went to the port again and nothing.
I checked the fuel pump relay in the fuse box and it clicks when the key is turned over.
Is there any thing else I can do to make sure it IS the fuel pump before I drop 300 dollars and replace this pump when it could be something simpler?
Thanks for all your assistance!

Mine has gone out twice in the last 2 months. the no fuel pressure is a pretty good sign. You could turn the key to the on position and listen for the pump in the tank. The new one they just put in I can hear from a few feet away. Checking the fuse is always the cheap and quick check. after that its probably the pump.
