Your 89 must have been different inside the gauge cluster. Mine does not have green plastic on the back, only the printed circuit board which is brown. That explains why so little light is reflected to illuminate the gauges! Poor design. I'm actually thinking on swapping in the 95-98 style dashboard now, guess I want a real challenge! I am researching it now and know that some tricky wiring will have to be done. I plan to make an adapter for the wiring, no cutting or hacking...

As for doing a LED conversion, don't you have to get dimmable LEDs, since the instrument cluster is dimmable. That's at least what I understand.Christopher
