Thread: Engine Clean-up

  1. #1

    Default Engine Clean-up

    Gooooooood afternoon,

I'd like to pop open the hood this afternoon and clean my engine. It looked awfully dirty last time I checked my oil in there.

Never cleaned under the hood before. Any recommendations, tips, product, things to watch out for?

    Thanks in advance...

I'll post some before and after pics...

I use Castrol Super Clean degreaser and a powerwasher with the right nozel. I have done this on all types of cars. Some people will say Im crazy but I have have done it myself so you cant tell me it doesnt work! As long as you have a enclosed filter you should be fine.

Whaat you need to do is get a good all purpose cleaner i use adams APC. Spray the engine compartment down with it and then take a brush and srucb it. Then take you hose on a wide stream of water so it does nto have pressure and spray down the engine. You can also use a pump up sprayer two to put the water on the engine. This way the water is controlled. Some people say start it before you wash it. But i do it after then let it run for a couple minutes this way it drys the enginge bay for you also watch these vids hope this helps.

CASCOTT you are wrong, if you want to clean the engine you can use ANY degreaser or even something like simple green. The thing/s you want to watch out for are; siren if you have an alarm on your truck, the alternator, and the open air filter if you have an intake, all you need to do is take grocery bags and double them up and proceed to cover the alternator or any of the other things i listed and you will be fine, i clean my engine up all the time and i have never had a problem, you wont fry anything at all.
