Default Performance chip - 2009 Chevy Silverado 5.3L Flex Fuel

    Hello,

I have read numerous posts regarding the use of a performance chip to increase horsepower and mileage. I was wondering if anyone has tried this with a 2009 Chevy Silverado 5.3L Flex Fuel that switches between V4 and V8?

i have the same truck except mine has a 4 speed transmission and what i hear you will get some horsepower difference and mpg difference but a custom tune is the way to go from what ive found out... put your exhaust and cold air intake and any other things your gonna put on your truck before you get it tuned or you'll have to tune it again

What are you referring to when you say "custom tune".?

A custom tune would require taking your truck to an auto performance shop and having them test run your truck. They would connect to your computer and adjust things like your fuel maps. They may even run your truck on a dyno to give you Hp and torque outputs before and after the tune.

When you install exhaust, intakes, and other performance mods it may throw off you air/fuel ratio and may require some tuning. With the right chip you can adjust these yourself if you know what your doing. The advantage to purchasing a tuner is that you can set for power, mileage, or restore your factory settings.

GM stopped using "chips" in 95, and now the PCM/ECM/TCM needs to be tuned in order to change things up. We are a custom tuning business, you don't have to come to our shop however, as the majority of our tuning is done via mail order.

GM leaves a lot to be desired on their stock tunes.
