Default how strong is the 5 speed

i was just wondering how strong the manual 5speed transmissions that gm puts in the pickups with the 4.8. i want to build a single cab short bed with a built 5.3 and really want a stick.. so i was thinking about buying a base model 99-02 with a stick thats either blown up or wrecked and putting my extra 5.3 in it and doing a full build

The 5 speed will be fine as long as you don't abuse it. It's not built for racing but will work OK if you drive it normally.
