    Angry Trouble With My Heater

    I have a 2000, 1500 Silverado LE. I was driving to Des Moines from Milwaukee Thursday and as I was driving I noticed that the cab was unusually cool. Of course this happened when the weather hit 12 degrees. Anyways I have checked every fuse related to HVAC. The coolant is at a normal level. I was however able to get a little heat by switching everything to the max position and then by selecting recirculating the air in the cab instead of from venting outdoors. If anyone has any ideas on how to go about finding out what else could be causing it, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Two possibilities.
    You might have some heavy deposits plugging the heater core(unlikely, but possible).
    Also, if I'm not mistaken, there is a heater control valve under the hood that runs on vacuum and sends the coolant to the heater when you hit the switch. If that's bad, you won't get any coolant in the heater core under the dash.

    I'm having the same problem with my 2009 Silverado 4.3l
    coolant is full.
    Did you have any luck fixing the problem ?

    For auto systems, press the auto button, with the key on.

    Turn the ignition off.



    Remove the HVAC/ECAS , 10 amp fuse in the underhood fuse box* or disconnect the battery for one minute.

    Install the HVAC fuse or reconnect the battery.


    Start the engine. On systems with auto a/c controls the controls will default to 74 degrees F when the ignition is turned back on.

    DO NOT TOUCH the a/c controls.

    Let the engine run for 1-4 minutes.


    Turn the ignition off for at least 10 seconds but no more than 30 seconds.


    Restart the engine and then test the a/c controls.

    did this suddenly occur ? if so then the ac may need to be reset as was mentioned . the other possibility is the temp door is sticking. this is how the ac changes the temp.

    I found that this stepper motor that moves this door is binding. I used a washer as a shim on the mounting screw to allow some space on the interface of this . so far no problems.

    Turns out the temperature actuator needed replacing.
    $244 for the part and 2 hours labour to the tune of $450
    bummer...

    well not every one is into fixing vehicles .. that is a huge cost when compared to you doing it .

    I do not agree with that labor of 2 hrs.. and the $244 for the part.

    this is an example of the cost with these not that 1A Auto is the cheapest.

    They actually gave me a break, as i knew the tech.
    $365 +Tax = $408 out the door
    (I'm located in Canada)
    Wish I was more mechanically inclined.

    anyone reading these posts will at least have a real time look at the costs involved with dealing with the dealerships.
