Well, everyone compares their performance against the Corvette. C&M and MT both compare some other "sports" car to the vette about two times a year. The vette, even in the years of the dumbing down of the auto was still a 'vette. There is no automobile on earth with a greater following. We attended the 09 Caravan to Bowling Green this past September. There were somewhere in the nehghborhood of 5000 corvettes there. We have 2000 convert, and would never part with it [except to trade for a new 'vette]. It is a blast to drive and we take it on long trips. Consistent 28mpg on the road.
The Corvette is one of GM's test beds. many innovations are seen there before they enter the mainstream production. If you ever get to tour the factory and the museum, it is worth the trip. The factory tour is $5 and the museum a few bucks more, but certainly a great trip for any auto buff.
My truck is m truck, a work horse that does all the chores and never complains. I sometimes take it for granted. That being said, some of the things it has, DIC etc, were in the 'vette first.
