    Default The Chevy Cobalt

    Now that the Cobalt has been around for a little bit of time, how are they holding up?

    I dive a 1999 Cavalier LS as my daily commuter to/from work, it's a great little car. How much better is the Cobalt than the Cavalier?

    Well, I had a 2000 Cavalier Z24 for almost 5 years...I modded it, raced it, drove the crap outta it...was a GREAT car...

    Well i drove a couple 07 Cobalts...and wow...big different..a huge upgrade. Interior is better, exterior is more solid, the overall build quality is a great change. The cavalier was hella cheap....and I'm glad they upgraded to the Cobalt.

    That's what everyone is saying about the Cobalt. It's a much better design, roomier, quieter, better fuel econ, etc. All around an improvement. That's progress!

    I am NOT a fan of small cars period. I must say however that on one of the few times we flew up to the east coast we rented a cobalt to drive around. I was very impressed with it. We flew into BWI (Baltimore) and drove to New Britain, CT. Then drove down to Rehoboth Beach, DE and then to Chincoteague Island, VA, then back to BWI. We put quite a few miles on it in about 3 1/2 days!!! I was very impressed with it. Now it is no Yukon but for a car I did not feel cramped or anything, and the gas mileage was great!! I was able to fill up for about $25 and get 300+ miles a huge difference to $60 for 325+ miles!!! I would give it an A+. I still however would never buy one unless gas got completely out of hand $10+/gal

    I have friends that have cobalts, they're nice cars. quite, easy to drive, lots of room for the small size.

    My wife has the 05 SS/SC Cobalt it's been a good car here are the troubles we've had, shiftknob comes off in the extreme heat, the sunroof button bezel fell off, the heater fan came loose, paint on the interior door chips easily, all have been repaired under warranty, other than that its been a good little daily driver.

    I think the cobalt is a hit. I drive a Cavalier each day as my little commuter car, and the Cobalt beats it hands down. The only problem I have is that GM still sends so many of these out to the rental fleets just so they can keep up their production numbers. That ends up diluting the resale value, making it less appealing to buy becuase you can't sell it for as much.

    That was one of the reasons we went with the SS model, not too many of those on the roads. She also wanted a little more power than normal so I had them put the GM stage 2 kit in the car.

    So now it has a little giddyup and still gets close to 30mpgs, much better than the 18 the Silverado gets.

    Silverlight, if you wanted a Cobalt that I believe would have held its value better I would have gone with a non-supercharged sedan. GM only makes ~2500 of those per year, whereas the supercharged and non-supercharged SS coupes are ~7000 per year each. But I know how it is. I had the same reason for buying the 2006 SS/SC. Then I saw those numbers straight from GM. Guess the wife knew something I didn't because she got the SS/NA sedan with a 5-speed which is quite rare. The tranny also makes more of a rare find since the SS sedans usually came with an auto. Nice job buying GM stage 2 for the added power. Just to let you know, if you dyno the car I am willing to bet that you are making more power than GM rates it at (~245-250bhp). And with 42.5 lbs. injectors, acheiving about ~30mpg is nothing to ignore since the 2006 epa mpg rating was 29 hwy with 32 lbs injectors. Once again, GM underrated something. I too will be installing GM stage 2, but with the stage 3 pulley for a little more power. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM. I am usually able to answer questions about the Cobalt.
