    Default 04 TB AWD/4WD

New 04 TB owner. It did not come with an owners manual and I cant find much info on the web. There is a selector for 2wd, awd, 4HI and 4 LO.
What is the difference between AWD and 4HI ?

    Good question.

I wish I could help you, the only thing I can tell you is AWD is like 4 WD but I believe usable at all speeds and has more computer control over it, I think.

A buddy has AWD in his Van and likes it better than 4 WD. Better handling, at least that's what he said.

I'm sure others with more knowledge about the different systems will chime in.

When in AWD, the transfer case acts similar to a limited slip differential. It is not completely locked up so you can make turns without chirping the tires and creates less wear on the drivetrain. When in 4WD, it locks the front with the rear so that the front tires turn at the exact same speed as the rear. 4WD should only be used off road or on ice/snow.

I'd like to get a new TB or Envoy AWD and take it for a spin in the mountains to test it out. I've driving AWD systems, they handle very nicely in ice and extrememly slick conditions, almost like a traction control system.
