Head gasket and other problems???
A friend brought over a 1999 GMC Yukon with the 5.7 vortec engine. It has 128,000 miles and is blowing smoke big time. He wants me to change all the gaskets on it, but another problem has come up, when I tried to start it, it just turns but no fire. I had to pump, then full throttle the gas to get it started everytime. Does that sound like a problem from the head gasket or intake leaking coolant, or does that sound like a fuel injection kind of problem? I can change gaskets, but when it comes to fuel injection and not carbureation, I suck! Please let me know what you think. Are these engines more prone to intake gasket leaks rather than head gaskets? Thanks

Change the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure regulator... That should solve, or at least start to help, the starting problem... AS for the smoking, change the gaskets and see if that solves it...
