Sorry about posting 2 threads today but I'm quite concerned about this.
I have a 2005 silverado 2500 duramax & yesterday when I was driving around 60 mph I went to pass a semi & when I hit the gas the truck completely lost power. It was totally powerless & I couldn't pass him. I tried twice.
I programmed one of those powertech jobbies but a couple weeks ago when I went to start my truck it was dead. No lights were left on & I still don't know why that happened, (maybe the extreme cold on the battery?) Anyways, could that have reset the power upgrade on the truck like it resets your electrical?
Why did I not have any power? I'm stressed out.
Thanks!!
Erica

Have you changed your fuel filter lately? Maybe its clogged?
Dead batteries won't erase a tune.
Might be time to change it if its been a few months, especially if you fill up at smaller stations that don't have fuel filters on their pumps like truck stops do...
Ok thanks.
I don't know if that's the problem but I'll get it changed.

It can't be stressed enough that the fuel delivery system on a diesel needs regular maintenance. Filter schedules can't be ignored. Stay away from cheapie diesel, buy the good stuff from a major distributor. Start using a diesel additive if you aren't already.
Based on the age I'd suspect clogged or faulty injectors. My buddy has an 05 and he has been replacing them one at a time. (Rather expensive about $500+ each) We'll be cruising along and boom, the power just disappears. Sometimes he can limp it home other times out comes the AAA card. Both times a bad injector. If you are going to replace them one at a time you have to know which one is bad. Your mechanic can test them. Otherwise you have to pony up the dollars to replace them all.
Head on over to diesel power mag for a couple of good articles on diesel fuel injection: dieselpower1 dieselpower2

This time of year with the cold weather water in your Diesel fuel is popular, water will make your truck act a lot like this. Changing the filter should clear up most of the water in your tank and as posted an additive will also help.

So how often should the filter be changed? It still says it's at 46% on my electronic indicator.

every 12K to 15K miles the filter should be changed.
Also you should try Amsol's diesel concentrate with cold flow improver.AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate Plus Cold Flow Improver is formulated with excellent detergency properties to help keep injectors, rings, piston crowns and the fuel pump lubricated, plus lowers the cold flow filter plugging point (CFPP) by as much as 34 F (19 C) in ultra-low sulfur diesel.
