Question 2010 silverado z71 gas mileage

New to the GM truck world, first GM truck, used to drive f-150's but decided to try a gm.. also new to forum.
Question, I have the 5.3 eng and I am wondering what kind of mpgs people are really getting in their newer trucks with the fuel mgt system both in 2 wh and 4wh, thanks for any info.... cold here in buffalo

My co-worker has a 2008 silverado 1500 Z71 and he gets on average around 14mpg, mostly city driving.
I have a 2009 2WD and I am currently getting about 15.5 with mine (with 480 lbs of sand in the back for traction.) When I first bought it I was getting on average 16.5-17mpg empty with it. I too drive mostly city stop and go miles.
On the last trip over 500 miles I put on it before winter here in buffalo I got 22mpg with the cover on the back.
We both have the 5.3L motors in our trucks as well. He is not real happy with his mileage, but I have seen him drive and I am surprised he gets that much mileage out of it.<LAUGH>

Default 09 Silverado LTZ 4X4 Gas Mileage

My truck has 5.3V8 with less than 5K miles and gets about 15 MPG combo city hwy miles. I drive mostly in 2WD, until recent 20" snowfall! The 4X4 was awesome!!!

Mostly around town, in 2WD or Auto = 14.6mpg so far. Barns aren't too aerodynamic, are they?

My 08 can pull 14-17 around rural areas. What kills the mpg is idling to warm up.

i pretty much drive everywhere in AUTO. if i drive aggressive like i normally do, it averages 14-16mpg city/hwy combined. when i drive nice and slow it'll get about 18mpg as advertised if its in just 2WD i get about 1-2mpg better, and in full time 4wd about 1-2mpg less.

now i just finished installing pulstar spark plugs, bully dog triple dog GT timer, and a magnafow exhaust. these in addition to my K&N CAI get me 26mpg on the hwy which is freakin awesome! but this week i am throwing on my lift, so that might come down a little bit.

my last 80 mile highway trip - 19mpg (set cruise at 60mph for most of the trip)
city driving - horrendous 10 mpg in the cold freezing temp.

2009 Sierra SLT Crewcab (with 1,200 miles) - 5.3 4x4 with tonneau cover... always set to 2wd mode

Please keep posting...i would like to see what mileage the newer 2009/2010 5.3 crewcabs with 6 speed tranny are getting.

The mileage I'm getting is no where close to the posted "Canadian" window sticker mileage. It's 16city/23hwy. Does anyone know what the 2009 window sticker mileage is?

Default MPG my experience with 2 new body style 4X4 set ups

So I owned a 2007 5.3, Z71, 3.73 gears, 4 spd tranny, ( we had probably one of the first ones in our area as the dealer only had a few days and we leased t it NOV 2006) and in the winter left it in auto and seemed to get a respectable 17 city and 24 hwy. When i controlled my right foot(I actually mean use cruise) I tested it on hwy 401 in Southern Ontario cruise set @ 62mph for 30 miles and got 27mpg !! I was shocked.

Now I have a 2009 5.3 L, 3.42 gears, 6 speed tranny. I purchased it used with about 5000 mi on it. I put on the DIC upgrade and when I looked at the average MPG that the truck did it came up as 17mpg. Now I know they towed a 7000lbs trailer a few times this summer and since I have owned it I'm probably gettin 14.5 mpg city and 20 hwy. I will give this truck the same 30mile test and see what I get. Now don't get me wrong I dumped my caddy SRX to get back into a truck and I love the Silverado but I"m not overly impressed with the MPG on the 2009. I would have expected atleast the same performance out of this truck as we had out of the 2007, IMO.
