to GMTC. A great place to hang out for all things GM.
Sorry to hear about the blown engine. Not a lot we can do here for you. Obviously an engine swap is something beyond your ability, so you will either have to pay a shop to do the work or sell the burb.

You don't mention what year your burb is, so its difficult to say whether it makes sense to dump $3000 for an engine, or buy another vehicle.

As a mother of 5 you should probably consider something more fuel efficient than a burb. There are mini-vans galore that would make a great kid hauler and the money you save on gas you can put in your piggy bank for repairs.

Marsha marsha marsha, sorry had to get that out of the way.

Have you had a second opinion on this diagnosis?
If not that should be the next step.
The Suburban is a great people mover and it's popularity means theres plenty of wrecked Suburbans waiting to have thier parts picked out and used to revive your girl, not to mention all the other fine GM products that use the same engine that it could be swapped with.
You dodnt give any specifics about your like yr, engine size, 4x4 or 2x4 (I suspect 4x4 because of the lift but thats not a guarantee), mileage.

So with that said I'd get a second opinion.
If it is a bad cylinder I'd start calling around for pricing on
1- Used certified low mileage engines
    2- Remanufactured engines
You want the price with new belts, hoses, water pump, tune-up parts, etc
Once you have the prices you'll need to sit down and figure if a replacement engine is financially feasable or if it's time to look at a replacement vehicle.
Factor in the mileage and condition of your vehicle and other drivetrain parts like the transmission and/or transfercase, and axles.
