Default 200r4 vs: 700r4 and other trannys,

Hi, so i am new here, and have a question, I am looking at building a 80 half ton 4x4 with a 350 motor. Trying to figure out what tranny I want to put behind it. I want to have something thats going to hold up to pulling my 65 scout up to the mountians. Perhaps take a camper up there to. On the other hand when I run on the interstate I dont want to be red line rpm's and only doing 65mph!!! (exageration I know!! But I think you know what i mean!!) And yet I want it to shift solid and get up and go. I was talking to a guy tonight and he had mentioned something about a chevy tranny, the 200r4. I cant seem to find much info on it yet. But is it 4x4 compatible? Or should I go with a turbo 400? Maybe 700r4? turbo 350? So many choices!! So little info!! Any input on where to research this stuff out or if one tranny stands out that fills the above requirements would be greatly apprecieated!!! Thanks and have a great night and or day!!!

Only way a 2004R would work in a 4x4 application would be with a divorced transfer case..... Best bet for what you said you're wanting would be a built 700R4........ Unless you have a few thousand to spend on it, then I'd go with a 4L80E....... But I'd go with a built 700R4..... Because the Turbo 350 or 400 don't have Overdrive.

I took out my TH350 and put a 700r4 behind my 350 engine. I wanted the O/D and a solid shifting tranny...one thing you may want to look at is putting a toggle switch in to turn off the O/D if you're hauling a load.

First - '68 longbed (lady runs stop sign, insurance gives me a check)
Then - '81 SWB (stupid stupid stupid...sold it thinking I was going to get something else)
    Now - Finally got my '86 (350, Holley 600, 700r4)
