A tree saver is wider and can be wrapped around a tree to use the tree as a base to pull from if you have a winch, come along, or Hi-Lift jack.
I would recommend a Hi-Lift jack at the very least to compliment your strap due to their versatility.
The "D" ring will work perfect for a connecting point, most of them are smooth and wont put abraisions on the strap making it last a long time.
Some straps come with leather covers over the loop, I personally prefer these althought they run up the cost of the strap. An old T-shirt wrapped around the loop can do the same thing for cheaper.
