Definitely do something about your auto lights. When you turn the key at night they will turn on and then flash when you start the engine. The flash like that is bad for the ballasts.Michael, 17, CA

on the new style, Im not sure what to do about that, but i have plans to put a switch in to mine to cut out power to the headlights even with the auto lights. I like the automatic lights too much to fully disable them, but it is not good for your ballasts to start the truck with the lights in the automatic mode. When i did my remote start a couple years ago, I found a wire in the bcm under the dash that activated my low beam lights. I figure if i find that wire again, and wire it through a switch that I will put in near my light switch, I can control whether power goes through it, and therefore control whether the auto lights actually turn the headlights on or not.
you may be able to rig up something like that, or there are ways to fully disable the auto lights. also, as others have said, on the 07+, it is pretty much necessary to disable your DRL lights if you want the ballasts to last.
