i forgot to mention im going to be going to school for automotive and diesel tech. so it may be an ongoing project. i would love an s10 with a cummins 4bt swapped into it. then again, an s10 with a 22r would be cool. idk how it would go, but it would be quite the project.

The 4bt wouldnt be a good choice, it would be real heavy and you need high RPM's for a mud runner.
The 22r would work but the Toyota 2.7 has a little more HP and can run a few more RPM's. Coupled with a turbo that would give you a great HP to weight ratio for slinging the mud and spinning the front tires.

im geussing the 2.7 is the v6, but i prefer the 22r. the 22r actually makes more tourque than the v6s that toyota had in their trucks. the v6s are still sweet tho

No the 2.7 is the newer version of the 22r, still an I-4.
In 95 with the introduction of the Tacoma body Toyota also updated the standard 4x4 engine to the 2.7.
Besides a bigger bore the 2.7 also has a few tweaks to the valvetrain and better balancing, it likes a little higher RPMs than the 22r did.

nice. honestly, higher rpms doesnt appeal to me. maybe my "mud runner" will be more of a "mud walker cuz i like bein able to slowly crawl through. my friend had an 81 ford with a 300 straight 6 with a 4 speed. put it low range and in 2nd and 3rd it would sling mud 60 feet. but in low range and 1st she would walk through anything

I think an S10 would be the best build, you don't see many of them around. Be careful with the frame though, I have heard from an S10 desert builder that they crack easily in some parts.
